Cookie policy – Nztennisodds
A tennis-and-betting information site gets by with a small set of technical tools, and Nztennisodds lists them here. Cookies are small text files stored by a browser; local and session storage and counting pixels do similar work and are covered by the same rules.
The law behind it
Where such technologies collect personal information, the Privacy Act 2020 governs, through the information privacy principles of section 22. Collection needs a lawful purpose connected with running the site (IPP 1) and notice of what is collected and why (IPP 3). The information is protected by reasonable security safeguards (IPP 5), retained only while needed (IPP 9) and sent outside New Zealand only under IPP 12. A choice made in the cookie banner can be reversed at any time.
Essential files
Without these the site would not work dependably. They maintain a session, balance traffic between servers, guard forms against abuse and record the cookie choice. No separate choice is asked for. Session files end when the browser closes, and the recorded choice is kept for twelve months at most.
Functional and analytics files
Functional files remember settings, for instance which comparison table was open last. Analytics files count page views and reveal which pages are read, so the content can be improved. Both groups wait for the banner choice. IP addresses are shortened for analysis, and no cross-site behavioural profiles are made.
Outside providers
Embedded external content such as videos or maps may set its own files, in which case the provider’s privacy rules also apply and any objection is raised with that provider. Nztennisodds does not use advertising cookies for personalised ads unless the banner choice clearly allows it.
Refusal and change
The "Cookie settings" link in the footer changes or withdraws the choice whenever wanted; withdrawal acts for the future. Browsers separately allow cookies to be blocked or deleted in their privacy settings. If essential files are deleted, the banner reappears and some features may stop for a short time.
Complaints
A complaint about handling of personal information goes to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. The privacy policy of this site gives the detail.
